UPDATE (November 2024): WE SAVED THE BRODSWORTH MINERS HALL, TOGETHER!

To get here has taken some hard work. Our Levelling Up Funding (LUF) Round 2 application wasn’t successful. But we received it in the LUF Round 3!

In the meantime, we went out looking for other funders to help us save this building & give it a new chapter for the community!
We found the WEA (workers education association charity) who aligned perfectly with what the community said they wanted.

So we have LUF 3 & WEA investment - bringing both BIG Adult Education investment to our area - but also a real chance to make the Welfare Hall the place to be for all things community, health, culture & education! That will be around 5 million pounds investment when it’s all done! Amazing!

Read more about it here.

This is our community collective generated vision and ambitious plan to help transform Brodsworth Miners Welfare Hall and Grounds

Since Brodsworth Colliery closed in 1993, Woodlands (and surrounding areas across the North of Doncaster) have seen all of their local heritage stripped away & buildings and assets knocked down or sold on. The Welfare Hall is the last remaining asset from this period.

The Hall once symbolized hope, community and heritage. And we’re wanting to bring this back.

Restoring & developing the Welfare will provide a focus for regeneration and further investment promoting local economic growth and opportunities for local residents to improve their health and social wellbeing.

Creating a space that can hold commercial and health-based organizations/business and re-opening the space to the community, will create greater wellbeing, local engagement and community cohesion across Woodlands bringing the community together with information, education and culture and leisure opportunities.

The current business plan incorporates an ambition vision that works from Phase 1, all the way through to Phase 4. With community and small community businesses at the core.
